World Elder Abuse Awareness Day
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day – Thursday 15th June 2017
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (or WEAAD for short) will be on a Thursday this year, and as always is 15th June. As we are sure you are aware, abuse can be financial, physical, sexual, or psychological (emotional), or can be caused by neglect. It affects about 500,000 older people across the UK each year, causing enormous pain and suffering. WEAAD was created to educate people how to prevent abuse, or how to get help if they are being, or have been abused, or are at risk of being abused.
Please will you support us by running an event on or around 15th June? We have created a fundraising brochure which you can download by clicking the link below:
This will give you ideas about how you could help, and contains a full A to Z of events or fundraising ideas on pages 3-4. Perhaps a (sponsored) wheelchair push draws your eye, or a coffee morning, bake sale, name the baby photo competition, bucket collection, or an abseil down a building. Or will you just raise awareness of the issue? The brochure also suggests how you can ensure your activity is a success & will realise the best return for you and your colleagues’ time & effort.
We are keen to encourage you to have fun whilst supporting a worthy cause: Action on Elder Abuse. We also have Posters, Ribbons, Collecting Tins, T-Shirts, Helpline Wallet Cards, Balloons & other collateral available to help you. All you need to do is commit to running an event, and signing up on the form in the brochure.
Any funds you generate will help support victims of abuse via our information, advice & guidance helplines; it will enable us to case manage issues on behalf of the most vulnerable victims’ helping to get their abuse stopped; provide a one-to-one elder abuse recovery service that helps victims re-gain the confidence to get out of their homes & re-join their local community; and more. Please call me on 020 8835 9289 or eMail RobertHacking@ElderAbuse.org.uk if you have any queries.
Let’s work together to make this year even bigger, better and more successful. Thank-you in anticipation of your support!
With kind regards:
