Vacancy: Helpline Volunteers (home-based)
Helpline Volunteers (home-based): Action on Elder Abuse Scotland
Ever thought of helping people, but not sure what you could do?
Do you enjoy chatting and listening to people, and providing emotional support?
Do you have a few hours a week to spare to help others?
We may have a role to suit you as a volunteer on AEA Scotland’s Elder Abuse Response helpline.
Action on Elder Abuse is a UK-wide charity, and our unique confidential Helpline has been successfully operating in England for around 20 years. We’re now expanding in Scotland, and Action on Elder Abuse Scotland are looking for home-based volunteers to take calls on our helpline. Our helpline provides free, confidential information, advice and support to victims of elder abuse, as well as others who are concerned about or have witnessed abuse, neglect or financial exploitation.
If the following apply to you, then please get in touch to find out more:
- you are aged 18 or over;
- you enjoy working with older people;
- you have excellent communication skills;
- you can build a rapport with older people, and or people in distress;
- you can provide empathy, advice, support or just be someone who can listen;
- you are willing to undertake extensive training to provide you with the relevant knowledge and skills to handle helpline calls.
We’re looking for three volunteers who can take calls from home (but must be within travelling distance from Fife to regularly meet with our staff for ongoing support and training). We’d like you to take calls during a 2-4 hour shift, at least one day a week (Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm).
Although our Helpline primarily deals with phonecalls, we occasionally take enquiries via e-mail. If you’re also interested in dealing with e-mail enquiries we can discuss if this might be an option for you, although this is not a compulsory part of the role.
You will be provided with full training and support, call-handling software and ongoing support and guidance from our staff and other volunteers. We will cover all out-of-pocket expenses and provide certificates for completed training.
