Old Village School Nursing Home closure

Gary FitzGerald, chief executive of Action on Elder Abuse, has responded to the latest care home closure that led to residents being moved late at night, in Community Care.

On Friday 7th August, the Old Village School Nursing Home in Bedfordshire was stopped from providing services with immediate effect, following legal action from The Care Quality Commission. This resulted in all residents suddenly being moved from the home in the middle of the night. “Moving older people in the cold, in the dark, at almost no notice – when they are confused and disorientated by what is happening”, says FitzGerald, “is institutionally abusing them.”
