AEA Northern Ireland Vacancies: Volunteer Helpline Operators

Action on Elder Abuse Northern Ireland is seeking volunteer helpline operators

Can you help a victim of elder abuse?

Every year over 500,000 older people across the UK experience abuse. Can you give 4 hours per week to help them?

Action on Elder Abuse is a UK-wide charity, and our unique confidential Elder Abuse Response Helpline has been successfully operating for almost 20 years. The charity has now expanded and has a working base in Northern Ireland and we need your help to develop our Helpline presence.

We are recruiting home-based volunteers to answer Northern Ireland calls to our Helpline. The Helpline provides free, confidential, information, advice and support to victims of elder abuse, as well as others who are concerned about or have witnessed abuse, neglect or financial exploitation.

If the following apply, then we want to hear from you:
• you are aged 18 or over
• you enjoy working with older people
• you have excellent communication skills
• you can build a rapport with older people, and/or people in distress
• you can provide empathy, advice, support or just be someone who can listen
• you are willing to undertake training to provide you with the relevant knowledge and skills to handle helpline calls
• you can reasonably travel to the BT34/BT35 area for training, meetings and support.

We’re initially recruiting 5 volunteers who can take calls from their own home on a rota basis. Each shift will be 4 hours in duration on one day per week between Monday and Friday 9am to 5pm.

You will be provided with full training and support, call-handling equipment, and ongoing support and guidance from our staff and other volunteers. We will cover all out-of-pocket expenses, and provide certificates for completed training.
